I can not believe this is my first blog! The start of many journeys and a start into the real world. Last week, I had gone through an article starting me into the field of cyber security. I thought I had known a solid amount of information, turns out, there are a lot of specifics that I need to learn! One of the most relatable things I learned was 'zero-day attacks" which are pretty much leaking information to people that is not supposed to be out yet. Like a song or a movie. And I say that is relatable, because I love music, and when someone leaks a song that was coming on an album or such, it pushes that album back, which is very annoying and I hope to combat that in the future. Another thing that I had learned was Intrusion detection systems (IDS) which was something that I had no idea came to play in the world cyber security. I had an understanding that there had to be some type of software that could detect such hacks or threats, but I had no idea that these could help combat them to their ability. Which not only helps get a head start and make the workload less for humans, it lessens human error, which in this field, is hard to fix if it happens. In my opinion, I was successful this week in really getting a better understanding of some basics of this topic, which the challenge of understanding all of the, completely, I can talk to my future mentor to understand them with the questions I have. I want to learn more about these systems and the ways that they can combat the threats. Because they seem to have to be pre-programmed to an extent and that's where the question of "how do you know what is coming?" comes into play.
